Celebrating 250 Years of Independence by Serving Those Who Defend It
by Leslie Parsons
On July 4, 1776, fifty-six delegates signed the Declaration of Independence, affirming a bold belief that all people are created equal and entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Two hundred and fifty years later, those words continue to inspire generations of Americans—and remind us that freedom has always required sacrifice.
At the True North Foundation, we believe the best way to honor our nation’s founding is by supporting the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting it. Every veteran’s story is a testament to courage, resilience, and selfless service. While their military service may come to an end, our commitment to them does not.
That commitment is made possible through partnerships with organizations that are changing lives every day.
Dog Tag Inc. empowers veterans, military spouses, and caregivers as they transition to civilian life by providing education, community, and entrepreneurial opportunities. Through its innovative fellowship program, participants gain the tools and confidence to build meaningful careers beyond the military.
Stay in Step helps veterans and others living with spinal cord injuries reclaim independence through activity-based therapy, adaptive fitness, and unwavering encouragement. Their work demonstrates that resilience is not defined by circumstance, but by the determination to keep moving forward.
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation invests in the future by providing educational scholarships to the children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen. By easing the financial burden of higher education, the Foundation honors the sacrifices of military families while helping the next generation pursue their own dreams.
Merging Vets and Players creates community through shared experience, bringing together military veterans and former professional athletes who understand the challenges of transitioning from a life defined by service and purpose. Together, they build lasting relationships rooted in accountability, wellness, and mutual support.
As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, we are reminded that independence is more than a moment in history—it is a legacy entrusted to every generation. It is preserved not only by those who wear the uniform, but also by the communities that stand beside them when they return home.
This anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on how far our nation has come and to recommit ourselves to those who have made that progress possible. We are proud to work alongside our nonprofit partners to ensure that veterans and their families have the resources, opportunities, and support they deserve.
For 250 years, Americans have answered the call to serve. Together, we can continue answering the call to serve those who served us.
